Situation
Insight
In 2014, The Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes had a website mainly for academic use, hosting their research. I saw an opportunity to make their findings more accessible to people living with diabetes. Although they had a website, e-newsletter, and Twitter page, they struggled to engage a broader audience due to complicated navigation, content that required high literacy, and a lack of visual appeal.
Objectives
To redesign of a website housing a blog showcasing the latest research findings, along with leveraging these outputs across various social media channels.
Methods
User interviews: 8 participants (a mix of both health professionals and consumers)
Development of user flow
Redevelopment of site map
User Testing: 8 participants (a mix of both health professionals and consumers)
UI Design Analysis
Task
I applied service design methods to identify market gaps and untapped consumer needs through user interviews, competitor analysis, and environmental scanning. I also designed and developed a custom WordPress website, creating high-level wireframes, prototypes, and a UI design book outlining visual principles. Additionally, I developed a scalable content strategy for managing website materials, including e-newsletters and advertising, to enhance brand visibility with consistent messaging.
Action
Research
To identify market gaps, completed user interviews to identify where consumers obtain research, interests in the research field and a comprehensive analysis of website trends.

Define
Navigation simplification: I redesigned the user flow so it offered two streamlined navigation options – menu and category links on the main page. This approach ensured users could effortlessly access the desired content.T
To validate the proposed changes, paper prototypes were subjected to rigorous user testing involving staff, health professionals, and consumers.
Design
Website UI: I handled the UI aspect that involved redefining fonts, colors, and images to achieve a cohesive visual identity. The color palette, enriched with primary blue and green tones, was complemented by accents of white, purple, and orange. Inspired by the socio-ecological model, like their logo, a circular design concept was adopted, with each quadrant symbolizing different facets of diabetes. This design was integrated with authentic images of individuals connected with diabetes, imparting a personalized touch.
E-Newsletter Transformation: I created the e-newsletter template that seamlessly integrated with the blog content, simplifying management and facilitating content transition from social media platforms to the newsletter.
Social Media Integration: I set up a Facebook account that aimed at people with diabetes allowed for targeted content sharing and engagement.
